Going the extra mile

We recently advised two clients on completely unrelated criminal matters in different courts to surrender themselves to the police.  This avoids the embarrassment and public spectacle of being arrested at home.  It also allows us a bit of control over the process and protects against the late night enforcement of an arrest warrant that typically leaves clients without representation during a critical phase.

We then accompanied our clients to the police stations for the booking process and the arraignments that followed thereafter.  The judges in each case listened to the thoughtful arguments we presented to keep both clients out of jail.  Bail was not imposed in either case.  One of our clients shed tears.  Every step counts no matter how big or small the case may be.
