Taking on insurance companies
We recently prepared to directly sue a big insurance company for failing to honor one of our client’s claims. That is different from pursuing claims against careless individuals who cause accidents. In those situations, insurance companies pay for settlements and attorneys to defend their negligent policyholders. The policyholders do not have to spend their own money for those expenses. That is what auto insurance, homeowners insurance and liability insurance is for.
This time, it was the insurance company itself that needed to be sued. It acted quickly and denied our client’s claims which added up to thousands of dollars. The client had to pay for a number of expenses out of pocket. It dangerously left the client without coverage in the event of a lawsuit.
We promptly notified the insurance company we were going to file suit. We demanded production of recorded conversations its employees had with out client before we were retained. We conducted vital legal research to chart the course the litigation would take. On the eve of our lawsuit filing, the insurance company reversed course and decided to provide the coverage our client paid for.
Every day, we help those injured by the negligence of others. This time, we provided valuable and timely assistance to a client who was nearly left high and dry by the very insurance company she needed most at a critical time.
